Riding the Salt Pans
Our short but unforgettable escape into Botswana delivered one of the most exhilarating experiences of our lives, a horseback safari across the vast, surreal landscapes of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
From the moment we mounted up, it was clear this was no ordinary safari. Riding across the salt pans felt like galloping across another planet. Wide open space, blinding white ground, and skies so big they made you laugh out loud.
We rode alongside wildlife, herds of zebra moving freely across the plains, springbok darting through the dust, and the occasional giraffe watching us pass with calm curiosity. Experiencing animals at eye level, without the barrier of a vehicle, was thrilling and deeply immersive. You feel part of the landscape, not just a spectator.
Evenings slowed the pace. As the sun dropped, the pans turned pink and gold, and we shared stories around the fire. The silence was profound: the kind that stays with you.
This wasn’t just a safari. It was raw, physical and a once in a lifetime adventure. If you can ride a horse and you’re looking for something wildly different, something you’ll talk about forever, this is it.
